Both of these machines consist of a drum with a wedge-shaped wire spacing, in which a screw with a variable pitch shaft is rotated by a low-power and low-speed gear motor.

In terms of size, the two versions have the same footprint. The main differences are the screw pitch, the pneumatic back pressure system (only present in the dewatering screw press) and the further technical measures required for the different uses of the machine.

Both versions are equipped with the cleaning system required for drum cleaning, which can be electric or fixed. Upon request, the dehydrator/thickener can be equipped with all the machines required for correct operation ( polymer Device UKBERT flocculator static or dynamic UKBERT, pump, control panel, etc.), installed on the stainless steel moving slide rail. In both models, the incoming sludge should first be conditioned by polyelectrolyte treatment to obtain proper flocculation of the sludge itself, thereby optimizing the operation of the machine.

Thickeners and dewatering screw presses can be provided on request, and even equipped with static or dynamic flocculation systems. Once the flocculated sludge enters the thickener or dehydrator, it will move its path through a screw with a shaft. In addition to other technical characteristics, depending on the type of machine, the screw will change its pitch to achieve thickening or dehydration. During the low-speed rotation of the screw, the separated water passes through the drum and is then directed to the discharge area of the eluent.

After reaching the discharge area, the sludge is transported to the outlet located at the bottom of the machine. In the case of a thickener, it can be connected to a pump to transfer the product to a possible subsequent dewatering system. At the same time, after pressing in the dewatering screw, the sludge passes After the Pneumatic counter-pressure system, it will be discharged into a dedicated garbage bin or loaded into a transportation system made of a screw conveyor or conveyor belt.

In order to obtain the best performance of sludge dewatering, the two machines can be installed in sequence: first install the thickener to obtain a certain concentration (ranging from 4% to 8% SS according to the model), and then install the screw press for dewatering, The percentage of dry matter is up to 25%. Dewatering screw presses are particularly suitable for concentrating and dewatering materials in flotation units.
